A powder like pollen showered from her wings, and I knew then that I must go. It did not take long. The trains are very fast these days.

When I am asked for hep it is not for me to turn away. It is not what I do, though perhaps in old age I have forgotten kindness, traded it for habit. My daughters used to tell me that, would tell me that a good deed from me was not as valuable as the good deeds of others. Then of course I left them, and the parts of me that shine, those bits I took with me.

I said the train was fast. I found the house, it was not too much trouble. An old thing, neglected. A golden powder shimmered in the window. I saw the nets of soft cloth, the tattered wings, the pins and glass frames and the smell an old man makes in the kitchen. And so I broke the window with my fist, and they flew from the house, fled upwards to the sun, those golden, showering, shimmering lights.

"Many of the designers I studied, from Bruce Mau to Richard Saul Wurman to Paula Scher, talked about..."

“Many of the designers I studied, from Bruce Mau to Richard Saul Wurman to Paula Scher, talked about the importance of asking “stupid questions”—the ones that challenge the existing realities and assumptions in a given industry or sector. The persistent tendency of designers to do this is captured in the joke designers tell about themselves. How many designers does it take to change a light bulb? Answer: Does it have to be a light bulb?”

- The Four Phases of Design Thinking - Warren Berger - The Conversation - Harvard Business Review

Good morning dance party WHAT?!

The folks at Palestinian Refugee ResearchNet thought they’d create a Facebook page only to discover: Facebook blocks the term “Palestinian”! (H/t Jillian C Cork.)

Are Palestinians the only group so blocked from making pages? Well, not really… after a little fiddling around, I discovered that al-Qaida Refugee ResearchNet and Nazi Refugee ResearchNet are filtered too.

It does seem a bit odd, however, that a population of up to 12 million people, receiving more than a billion dollars in international aid, recognized by the UN, and enjoying a degree of formal diplomatic recognition from the United States — is placed in the same filtered category as Nazis and al-Qaida.

I’ve sent an email to Facebook customer service—we’ll see what they say.

Just to be sure, I tried myself to create a “Palestinian sports” page — not allowed.
