Oh Canada.

Nice history you got there, Liberal party.

Historically, the Liberals have attempted to capture the middle ground of Canadian opinion, so while there were certainly people in Canada in 1921 that weren’t so flamboyantly racist, it reflects less on the Liberal Party as an institution that it does on Canada (like, odds are, your grandparents were probably racists [not to mention homophobes] and also Liberal voters, if they were in Canada already). Though, I wouldn’t even say “Oh, Canada,” really. I can with great confidence, assure you that if you were to go to Japan in the 20s, you’d find some real lets-invade-our-neighbours-because-we’re-superior racism.
That’s coming from a member of the Yellow Race.
Oh, and nobody construe this as some sort of endorsement for the Liberal Party past or present. Though, I’d say their greatest sin is standing for whatever they think might be popular without really believing in anything, not standing for what’s popular when what’s popular is offensive with 90-years of hindsight.
If we’re talking about the past deeds of long standing political institutions and how that reflects on their modern incarnations, the Republicans freed the slaves. That doesn’t soften what they’ve become.

Quinn, being insightful and on point, as usual.
