Because of these ideological conflations and commitments, the 1960s Progressive Left cannot ask whether things actually might be getting worse. Super interesting, but also a lot of “we were promised flying cars!” on the author’s part. I think he picks and chooses what he’s willing to consider progress; I’m not sure that 3D body scanners quite count as ‘strikingly low-tech’ airport security.
